The SAG Awards Predict the Oscars

The trophies, known as the Actor, were given to the performers who were most impressive in TV series and movies over the last year. The SAG Awards are known to be a predictor of success at the Oscars, particularly in the acting categories. Last year, the SAG award winners, including Lead Actor Will Smith, Lead Actress Jessica Chastain, Supporting Actor Troy Kotsur, and Supporting Actress Ariana Debose, also won at the Oscars, demonstrating the awards’ reliability as a bellwether of success.

The SAG Awards Were Streamed

The Everything, Everywhere All at Once film had an impressive night at the recent SAG Awards, winning a record-breaking four Actors out of five nominations, including the coveted Best Ensemble statue. Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Ke Huy Quan also won awards for their roles, with Ke Huy Quan becoming the first Asian actor to win the Supporting Actor category. The film had previously won top honors at the Producers Guild Awards and Directors Guilds Awards, indicating a bright future for the trippy multiverse family adventure. The dark comedy The Banshees of Inishirin, which also had five nominations, did not receive any awards. Additionally, Brendan Fraser won the Best Actor trophy for his performance in The Whale, and it is noteworthy that the four acting winners at the BAFTAs and the SAG Awards were entirely different, which could potentially disrupt the overall Oscar race.

The White Lotus, the resort-set comedy-drama on HBO, won several awards in the television categories, adding to its recent wins at the Golden Globes. The show won the Best Drama Series Ensemble trophy at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and Jennifer Coolidge also won an Actor for her role. The remaining awards were distributed among other nominated shows, with Abbott Elementary winning the Best Comedy Ensemble category and Ozark, which had the most nominations of any series with four, taking home one Actor for Jason Bateman’s performance. Jean Smart from Hacks and Jeremy Allen White from The Bear also won awards.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards are decided by the 120,000 members of SAG-AFTRA. The ceremony also included a special tribute to Sally Field, who was honored with the SAG Life Achievement Award.
