TV & Film Best Friends Who Hated Each Other in Real Life

Two characters on the same TV show might be best friends, but that doesn’t mean they always get along in real life. While some people may begin as closest friends (or performers who like appearing together), circumstances can soon change. We only need to witness the results as watchers, which is a great idea because no one desires to see on-screen besties fling obscenities at one another. No matter how delightful these friendships are on TV, they have an unfortunate tendency to break down (sometimes with hilariously nasty consequences) off-screen — leading to character breakdowns and plenty of awkward celebrity encounters. Here are some stars who had a hard time coexisting when cameras weren’t rolling.

Sarah Jessica Parker & Kim Cattrall – Sex and the City

The first edition of Sex and the City aired more than two decades ago, and the show is known for its extravagant clothes and crushes. But the ongoing off-screen battle involving Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie) and Kim Cattrall (Samantha) is arguably more contentious than some of the segments.

According to a source, Parker and Cattrall have long been at odds about money. Parker was promoted to showrunner in the second season, bringing her pay up to $300,000, prompting Cattrall to ask for a raise.

Isaiah Washington & Patrick Dempsey – Grey’s Anatomy

Isaiah Washington (Burke) was dismissed from Grey’s Anatomy in 2006 for using a derogatory word about his cast member T.R. Knight (O’Malley) just before a violent on-set dispute with Patrick Dempsey (Shepherd).

Knight chose to openly come out as gay after news of the incident appeared. After repeating the insult offstage at the Golden Globes in 2007, Washington rekindled the debate. In June 2007, ABC confirmed that the actor’s deal would not be renewed.

Blake Lively & Leighton Meester – Gossip Girl

All through the six episodes of Gossip Girl, Serena and Blair had a good amount of catastrophes, including several mutual lovers, plots, and a physical cake battle. Despite this, they always emerged on the other part as allies.

The real humans behind the character (Lively and Meester), on the other hand, are not in the same boat. When reports began to circulate that the two stars couldn’t tolerate one another, Lively’s publicist did nothing to address the matter, releasing the comments in August 2010, “Blake and Leighton have never been and never claimed to be great friends. Blake goes on stage, completes her duties, and returns home.”

Shannen Doherty & Jennie Garth – Beverly Hills, 90210

The greatest feud of the 1990s happened in the series Beverly Hills, 90210. In their filming days, Shannen Doherty (Walsh), who was known for being tough and aggressive on-set, was often at war with Jennie Garth (Taylor) and Tori Spelling (Martin).

In 2015, Spelling acknowledged that she persuaded her dad, Aaron Spelling, the series producer, to dismiss Doherty. Doherty and Garth allegedly had a fistfight, according to the True Tori actress.
